Moving to the San Diego,Ca area. We run a home remodeling company in Chicago, need resource suggestions.?

How can we make the business contacts before the actual move? What is the best way to begin the process of establishing business and marketing? Where can we research how the recession has affected the area and how we can make it work. Would it make more sense to plan a seasonal connection for the first year or so? I.e, spring and summer in Chicago with the remodeling business in full swing and then out the California from sept to march or april? Would this help us as a business to establish reputation, visibility?
