Why should a man be considered not relationship material if he ask to borrow money from you until payday?

It's the old school way of thinking, that MAN provides and cares for WOMAN. A man is supposed to be the provider and if you have to ask the female for funds, then I guess then it could be interpreted that you are not financially fit, a risk. I don't think that women who think this way are gold diggers. I think they are smart to question their possible mate so that a trusting relationship can be formed.
